Everything you need to know about getting tattooed
Booking & Consultation
Fill out the booking form on the Book Now page with details about your desired tattoo. Include reference images, placement, and size preferences. I'll review your request and get back to you within 24-48 hours to schedule a consultation.
Yes, a non-refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment. The deposit amount depends on the size and complexity of your tattoo and will be deducted from the final price. This ensures commitment from both parties and covers design time.
I recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance for smaller pieces, and 4-8 weeks for larger, more detailed work. This allows adequate time for consultation, custom design work, and scheduling. However, reach out anytime - I may have earlier openings available.
Absolutely! Bring any reference images, sketches, or ideas you have. I'll work with you to refine the design, ensuring it translates beautifully as a tattoo and complements your body's natural contours. I specialize in creating custom pieces, so we can collaborate to make it uniquely yours.
Tattoo Process
Pricing depends on size, complexity, placement, and time required. I provide quotes after our consultation when we've discussed your vision in detail. Small, simple designs start at a minimum rate, while larger pieces are quoted based on estimated hours. I'll always give you a clear price before we begin.
Session length varies based on design complexity and placement. Small tattoos may take 1-2 hours, while larger pieces can take 4-6 hours or require multiple sessions. During consultation, I'll give you an estimated timeframe. We'll also discuss breaks to ensure your comfort throughout.
Pain tolerance varies from person to person. Most describe it as a scratching or stinging sensation. Some areas are more sensitive than others - bonier areas and spots with thin skin tend to be more uncomfortable. I work efficiently and we can take breaks as needed. Many clients find the experience quite manageable.
Welcome! First tattoos are exciting. Here are key things to know: Stay hydrated and eat before your appointment. Avoid alcohol and blood thinners for 24 hours prior. Wear comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the tattoo area. The sensation is manageable, and we'll take breaks as needed. Healing takes 2-4 weeks with proper aftercare.
Aftercare & Healing
I'll provide detailed aftercare instructions after your session. Generally: Keep the bandage on for 2-4 hours, then wash gently with antibacterial soap. Apply a thin layer of recommended ointment 2-3 times daily for the first week. Avoid soaking (pools, baths) for 2 weeks. Don't pick at scabs. Keep out of direct sunlight and avoid tight clothing over the area.
Surface healing typically takes 2-4 weeks, during which the tattoo will scab and peel. Complete healing of all skin layers takes 3-4 months. During the first month, follow aftercare instructions carefully. After surface healing, keep the area moisturized and protected from sun exposure to maintain the tattoo's vibrancy.
Wait at least 48-72 hours before exercising, and avoid exercises that directly stretch or strain the tattooed area for 1-2 weeks. Swimming should be avoided for 2-3 weeks. Heavy sweating can irritate new tattoos, so start slowly and keep the area clean. Listen to your body and prioritize healing.
All tattoos fade gradually over years, but proper care minimizes this. Sun exposure is the biggest factor in fading - always use SPF 30+ on healed tattoos. Quality ink, proper healing, and skin type also affect longevity. With good care, fine line and botanical tattoos like mine age beautifully. Touch-ups can refresh older pieces.
Studio & Safety
My private studio is located in Pretoria, South Africa. The exact address will be provided when you book your appointment. The studio is clean, comfortable, and designed to put clients at ease while maintaining the highest hygiene standards.
Safety is my top priority. I use single-use, sterile needles and equipment that are disposed of after each client. All surfaces are sanitized between sessions. I wear gloves throughout the tattooing process. The studio meets all health and safety regulations, and I follow strict cross-contamination prevention protocols.
Yes, you're welcome to bring one support person to your appointment. They can help you stay relaxed and comfortable. However, I ask that they remain respectful of the space and not be distracting during the tattooing process. Large groups can make the small studio feel crowded.
Yes, you must be 18 years or older to get tattooed. Valid ID is required at your appointment. I do not tattoo minors, even with parental consent, as this follows industry best practices and legal requirements. This ensures all clients can make fully informed decisions.
